WINTER EXPERIMENTS IN SPAIN.

This week all the participant countries have started making the same 3 winter experiments. Spain and Greece have started with "The Balloon Experiment" to check how temperature affects the volume of a balloon after 20 minutes outside compared to the one inside the classroom.

Getting ready.

Taking note of the results. Both have a circumference go 68 cms but after 20 minutes outside, the red balloon has reduced it 3 cms.

NORTHERN LIGHTS

Marko, our friend from Finland, sends us this breathtaking picture of the northern lights.

An atmospheric phenomenon that's regarded as the Holy Grail of skywatching are beautiful dancing waves of light that have captivated people for millennia.  But for all its beauty, this spectacular light show is a rather violent event.

Energized particles from the Sun slam into Earth's upper atmosphere at speed of up to 72 million kph but our planet's magnetic field protects us from the onslaught.

As Earth's magnetic field redirects the particles toward the poles (there are southern lights too) the process transforms into this phenomenon that dazzles and fascinates scientists and skywatchers alike.

Due to the weather conditions we couldn't enjoy this view, but...maybe next time?
